A truly Australian wonder at William Ricketts Sanctuary

William Ricketts Sanctuary is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited in Australia.

It is a park in the middle of a forest and dotted with some of the most amazing statues of indigenous Australians I have ever seen.

Incredibly, I grew up just a few minutes drive from the park, but had never visited until I paid a visit to my mother in early 2008, well in to my 40th year of life. I wish I had gone earlier…and been influenced by artist William Ricketts’ view of indigenous Australians, which was decades ahead of its time.

William Ricketts Sanctuary is mystical, spiritual and sheer beauty, all rolled into one. It’s only fault: too many scupltures featuring the artist.
